I need to brag about my husband because I am fortunate enough to NOT be Jill Taylor - the wife of Tim Taylor from Home Improvement the television show in the 90s; if I were I would never have went to work when JB was constructing as I would have assuredly returned home to him either glued to the bar top or in a free-standing electrocution. So, I need to brag about my husband a little: he is a wonderful man and works very hard, most of the time hundreds of miles away from home (and me - which I am SURE is the most stressful part, jaja!).
Alas, he doesn't get much of a reprive from work when he gets home as we have been remodeling our basement area into a most excellent "dive bar" and man cave. JB finished the bar this past R&R and it looks beautiful.
Several months ago we went to a local hardwood supplier and custom ordered an Alaska birch bar top and side paneling. JB installed it a few weeks ago, using dowels and wood glue after he had tweaked the frame built by his dad. The he had to install the kickboards on the back and front and the side panels, being careful not to have anything unseemly showing. He applied some "Right Stuff" stain and then finished off the kickboards with a darker, reddish stain for contrast. Keep in mind that this finish carpentry is not something he has ever dabbled in and he did an outstanding job!
Oh, and I should definitely add that JB installed the ceiling drywall (with his father's help) and the light fixture above the bar.
